Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital started working on this new commitment
June 1977. The cost of construction was supported by government grants and
trust fund contributions provided by DSH two public lottery, and concerts.
Committee formed by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Bangladesh
supervised the construction. Among others, the late Prof. Ahmed
Tofayel a founder member and secretary of the board of DSH was a member of the
building committee. Management first board was created by the Ministry of
Health and Social Welfare, Bangladesh and Bulletin reported in
1975 (vide: GONo.26-3/75-NBR-427dt.25/6/75 and F.26 -3/75 - NBR/271dt.28.7.1977).
Since then, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Bangladesh has reviewed the board
regularly. This freedom is a hospital; children's hospital fledged non-
oriented services nationwide and the capacity of 535 beds profit. It has a team
of highly qualified consultants with the children and staff to meet the needs
of children.
This hospital is dedicated to providing comprehensive health care
to sick children, regardless of their economic situation. Hospital is a place
for postgraduate training in Pediatrics and is recognized by the University of Dhaka, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical
University (BSMMU) and Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS).
National Council (NEC) of Bangladesh, under the chairmanship of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the then Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh approved a plan to build a 500-bed hospital upgradable to 250 beds for children in December 1974. Later in March 1975 with the approval of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Bangladesh project site was transferred to the concepts present in the Sher -e- Bangla Nagar, Shyamoli, Dhaka.
